A 32-year fire service veteran of both career and volunteer fire service organizations, with 29 years of experience in the Seattle Fire Department. Retired as a Deputy Chief, his most recent assignment was Director of Training and Safety. His operations experiences include EMS and suppression positions, on-duty shift commander, battalion commander, and first line supervisor of engines, trucks, and fireboats. He has considerable experience as a public speaker and trainer throughout North America and has served on numerous fire service committees nationally.
