ITAC Tabletop Strategy and Tactics

Practice Responding to Large Scale Emergencies While Staying Warm and Dry

This two and a half to three day multi-media workshop, designed for fire service officers responsible for emergency incident management, is delivered using slides, video, live fire, and a tabletop simulator. Students work in small and large groups to examine case studies and solve tabletop simulated incidents that range from simple house fires to large multiple story commercial and industrial occupancies.

Our instructor will use a series of modules designed to assure student success by building on lessons learned through life and classroom interaction. In each session participants will learn concepts and practice essential skills necessary to prepare themselves to meet the stressful demands of an emergency incident and the professional qualification standards of

  • NFPA-1001,(2014)
  • NFPA-1021.4.2.1, 4.5.2,4.6.1, 4.6.2,(2012)
  • NFPA-1500 8-3, 8.1.8
  • NFPA-1561 4.5, 5.3.

All students participate in activities that help them recognize the five major building construction types and the behavioral characteristics of each type of structure when exposed to fire. Instruction includes extensive review of lightweight building construction issues along with strategies and tactics to safely and effectively manage incidents in these buildings.

Students learn to identify critical fire ground problems in simulated incidents and develop action plans to solve each problem. Action plans and ICS management skills are exercised and communication skills tested as students implement their action plans using the table-top simulator components.

The class provides a rewarding, highly interactive environment where students reinforce their own skills and learn from the instructor as well as the other students. Students rate the instruction and training as outstanding, among the most valuable training they have experienced. The class can be tailored and scheduled for the volunteer, career and combination departments.
